Azumino City Museum of Art
Located in the center of Azumino, the Azumino City Museum of Art offers spectacular views of Mount Jonen, a prominent peak of the Northern Alps. Originally opened in 1992 as the former Toyoshina Town Museum, it was renovated and reopened in 2025 to celebrate Azumino City's 20th anniversary.
The building, reminiscent of a medieval European monastery, harmonizes beautifully with the four-season rose garden, offering visitors both relaxation and inspiration. The museum houses works by local Azumino artists as well as modern sculptor Hiroatsu Takada and painter Yohei Miya, among others.
It is also cherished as a community space, and the museum café "Rozars" serves rose-flavored ice cream unique to this location.

The Azumino Chihiro Art Museum, surrounded by nature, exhibits works by picture book artist Chihiro Iwasaki and artists from around the world. Opened in 1997 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Chihiro Art Museum in Tokyo, the museum offers a "first museum" experience for children visiting an art museum for the first time.
Families can enjoy exhibitions and events together, and the facilities are designed so that even babies and young children can spend time safely.
The interactive exhibit "Plaplax" allows colors to mix and respond when voices are made around the table, creating the feeling that colors are communicating. The museum café recreates Chihiro’s favorite strawberry bavarois recipe from the historic Shinjuku Suzuyya café.
This museum introduces Setsuro Takahashi, who created innovative art using lacquer. It displays works inspired by the stars and mountains of his hometown Azumino, as well as his Edo-period birthplace and charming gardens. Visitors can also participate in lacquerware techniques, nurturing creativity and artistic sensibility through hands-on experience.
