Matsumoto Castle is one of the city's most iconic tourist attractions. While the castle grounds themselves are beautiful, the cherry blossoms surrounding the moat are especially breathtaking when in full bloom.
In 2024, the blossoms officially opened on April 7. Every year, three days after the blooming announcement, an eight-day “Night Cherry Blossom Viewing Event” is held.
The illuminated castle paired with the cherry blossoms creates a truly unforgettable scene.

One of the largest parks in Nagano, spanning both Matsumoto and Shiojiri cities. Among the multiple zones within Shinshu Sky Park, the most impressive cherry blossom areas are the “Flower Promenade Zone” and the “Field & Flower Zone.”
Long rows of cherry trees line the spacious walking areas and running course, allowing visitors to enjoy blossoms throughout the park.

Koboyama Kofun is one of the oldest keyhole-shaped burial mounds in eastern Japan. In spring, nearly 2,000 cherry trees—including Somei-Yoshino and double-flowered varieties—bloom across the hillside.
From near the summit, visitors can look out over Matsumoto City framed by cherry blossoms, while from a distance the entire mountain appears painted pink.

The Susukigawa River is a Class A river flowing through Matsumoto City. Cherry trees line the riverside paths, making it perfect for scenic walks or drives while enjoying the sound of flowing water.
On clear days, the surrounding mountains of Utsukushigahara provide a beautiful contrasting backdrop.

Anyoji Temple, located in the Hata area of Matsumoto, is famous for its 500–600-year-old weeping cherry tree, designated as a Special Natural Monument of Matsumoto City.

The Azusa River is the upper reaches of the Saigawa River, which flows through central and western Nagano Prefecture. Cherry blossoms bloom along the clear riverside, and on sunny days you can enjoy sweeping views of the mountains behind them.

Located near Asama Onsen and Shinshu University, the surrounding area of Kissei Cultural Hall and Air Water Arena Matsumoto is filled with cherry trees.

Loved by locals, it’s a spot where cherry blossoms naturally blend into everyday life.

Joyama Park is known for its viewing platform overlooking the entire city. Cherry trees are planted throughout the park, and in spring a beautiful “tunnel of blossoms” appears along the paths.
Families enjoying picnics on the lawn and children playing under the cherry trees make the park lively during the season. Food stalls may appear when the blossoms are at peak—perfect for a spring outing.

Seinan Park is located in the southwestern part of Matsumoto, right across from Sunpro Alwin—the home stadium of Matsumoto Yamaga FC.
In spring, a beautiful tunnel of cherry blossoms welcomes visitors entering from the stadium side.
The spacious lawn in the back is perfect for picnics and relaxing with family, making it a lesser-known but beloved cherry blossom spot.
